The plot
The described corporate team-building game begins with the following introduction:
It is the 1st century AD, though you have no idea — you live in your secluded enclave among the steppes, rivers, mountains, desert sands, and forests. The first sign of change comes with the arrival of Caravans: groups of wandering merchants on camels and donkeys, loaded with goods. For months or even years, they travel between two great empires, transporting precious cargo. From time to time, the caravans stop by your rather primitive huts. Each visit brings new stories, intriguing goods, and an increasingly tempting promise of profit…
“The Silk Road” is a unique team-building game that will immerse your company in the atmosphere of oriental bazaars and let you become ancient masters of trade. For two exciting hours, you’ll have the chance to test your skills in the art of commerce, negotiation, building business relationships, and forming strategic alliances — all to multiply your treasury and earn the title of the most renowned merchants on the Silk Road.
Team-building game “The Silk Road” in a nutshell
Participants are divided into two larger groups — Caravans and Regions. After a host-led introduction, they receive instructions, game cards, and trading resources. While each group has different tasks, their actions are interdependent. From a bird’s-eye view, it becomes clear that both sides aim to grow their wealth and build the longest Silk Road possible — a perfect system of cooperation. Two departments? Two projects? Two partner companies? Different roles, one shared goal. The analogy is intentional: beyond team-building objectives, the game is designed as a living metaphor — a reminder in everyday work of the value of playing on the same team.
