MISSION RELAX – How to Take Care of Employee Well-Being?

In today’s fast-paced work environment, more and more companies are recognizing the importance of looking after their employees’ well-being. Employee well-being is not a luxury—it’s a key factor influencing a team’s productivity, creativity, and engagement. Introducing strategies that support rest and recovery can bring tangible benefits both to employees and to the organization as a whole.

In this article, we’ll explore why investing inemployee well-being is worthwhile, what methods can effectively improve well-being, and how positive changes can translate into better company results. There are many different techniques and methods for managing stress and maintaining well-being. At Teamformacja, we aim to present them in workshops and encourage participants to try them out, discover which ones work best for them, and which they enjoy the most.

In this article, we will focus on one of these techniques—the practice of mindfulness.

Benefits of Mindfulness Practice: Employee Well-Being

The mindfulness technique is the intentional focus on the present moment, without judgment and without being distracted by unnecessary thoughts (Jon Kabat-Zinn). Rooted in meditation, this practice is widely used in many organizations as a way to improve concentration and reduce stress.

Research shows that regular mindfulness practice can lower cortisol levels—the stress hormone—in the body, which in turn leads to improved well-being and greater mental resilience. One of the main benefits of mindfulness is the enhanced ability to maintain focus. Employees who practice mindfulness regularly are less susceptible to distractions, allowing them to perform their duties more efficiently.

According to studies, people who engage in mindfulness demonstrate a better capacity to sustain attention and switch between tasks more quickly.

The 3 Cs: Creativity, Cooperation, and Communication

Mindfulness fosters openness to new ideas and innovative solutions. Thanks to a mindful approach to work, people who practice mindfulness are more likely to find unconventional solutions to problems. Research indicates that mindfulness training can enhance creative thinking and innovation in the workplace.

Working under pressure can lead to chronic stress, which negatively impacts both health and performance. Mindfulness helps manage emotions, which translates into better well-being and greater mental resilience. Regular mindfulness practice—along with other relaxation techniques such as self-massage, releasing energy through vigorous body movements, or breathing exercises—can significantly reduce stress levels and improve brain function.

A conscious approach to communication and interpersonal relationships contributes to creating a positive workplace atmosphere. Mindfulness teaches empathy and active listening, which improves team collaboration. Studies show that teams that incorporate mindfulness display better communication and higher effectiveness in group work.

Similarly, it’s worth practicing gratitude and kindness.

At Teamformacja, we work in a workshop format with many practices that reduce stress—not just at work!

Preventing Burnout

Burnout is an increasingly common issue among employees. Taking care of one’s well-being—for example, through mindfulness training or other relaxation techniques such as laughter therapy or Jacobson’s progressive muscle relaxation—helps maintain a healthy work-life balance, reducing the risk of excessive mental strain.

With greater awareness of their own goals and values, employees become more engaged and motivated to act. Effective stress management therefore means better energy management and more efficient task completion.

Case study – Google

Google has been promoting mindfulness among its employees for years, with one of the most well-known programs being Search Inside Yourself. This program was created in 2007 by Chade-Meng Tan, one of Google’s early engineers who recognized the need to support employees in managing stress and improving their effectiveness.

The Search Inside Yourself program combines mindfulness techniques, emotional intelligence, and the latest findings in neuroscience to help employees develop skills such as focus, emotional regulation, and effective communication.

Key Principles of the Program:

Attention Training – helps employees focus on tasks and eliminate distracting thoughts.

Self-Awareness and Self-Regulation – developing awareness of one’s own emotions and reactions, which leads to better stress management.

Empathy and Effective Communication – mindfulness supports building positive relationships within teams and improves collaboration.

The program quickly gained popularity at Google, and its effectiveness led to its implementation in other organizations worldwide as well.

Last but not least…

If you want your employees to work more willingly, effectively, and efficiently, managing stress is a necessary condition to achieve that effect. Of course, this won’t work if, besides relaxation techniques, they are constantly under pressure and working in difficult conditions!

Among effective relaxation tools is the practice of mindfulness—it supports employee productivity and well-being, and its implementation in the workplace can bring numerous benefits both on an individual and organizational level.

Companies that invest in developing mindfulness among their employees gain more engaged, creative, and stress-resilient teams.
